トロントでびっくりしたこと
私は今年の夏にトロントへ行きました。学会(がっかい,conference)があったんです。そのときに地下鉄(ちかてつ)の駅で、おもしろいものを見つけました。
それは、ごみばこです。
リサイクルとふつうのゴミの二つがあります。それに、ビニール(vinyl=plastic)のふくろの中が見えるんです。だから、みんなまちがえないで、気をつけて入れると思います。すばらしい!
ニューヨークの地下鉄のごみばこは一つだけですね。それでもリサイクルしているそうです。リサイクルとふつうのごみばこをおいても、ニューヨークの人は「どっちでもいい」と思ってリサイクルにふつうのゴミを入れたり、リサイクルできるゴミをふつうのゴミに入れたりしてしまうから、一つしかおかないと聞きました。
トロントのスーパーでもっとすごいものを発見(はっけん)しました。
それは土に帰る(つまりbiodegradable)ビニールのふくろに入ったぎゅうにゅうです。
アメリカでも日本でもこんなものは見たことがありません。(ヨーロッパにはあるのかな。。。)
トロントは環境(かんきょう)にやさしい町でした。

Try your best to be accurate as possible so that your readers will understand. But there is no penalty per se for making mistakes.

The Great Children's Read @Columbia University
日曜日にイベントがあるみたいです。
Join us for a free day of fun and books, plus live entertainment, on-site children's bookstore, readings, book signings and giveaways.
Rain or shine, Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 10:00a – 5:00p Columbia University will host fourth annual New York Times Great Children's Read. The day-long celebration will feature a free celebration of reading with live entertainment for children and families, presented by Target.
A list of Favorite New York City Stories was specially selected this year by children’s librarians from the three public library systems of New York City: Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and Queens Library. Celebrities from film, TV and Broadway will read from the 20 books on the list at The Great Children’s Read. Featured readers on the New York Times Stage will be: Dan Zanes, Matthew Settle from "Gossip Girl", Kym Hampton former New York Liberty Legend and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.
Featured entertainment at the Target Children’s Stage this year will include readings and performances by Grammy Award-winning artist and actor Common, Nancy E. Krulik, They Might Be Giants, John Bemelmans Marciano, Jane O’Connor, Playhouse Disney’s “Johnny and the Sprites,” David Soman and Jacky Davis, Playhouse Disney’s “Choo-Choo Soul,” Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Players, Peter Howe, Matthew Reinhart, Laurence Yep and Yo Gabba Gabba! featuring D.J. Lance Rock & Brobee. There also will be a performance and signing by American singer songwriter and actress Lisa Loeb. The Target Children’s Stage is a part of the company’s commitment to support early childhood reading through programs and events that aim tofoster a love of reading at an early age.
Admission to The Great Children’s Read at Columbia University is free and open to the public at 116th between Broadway and Amsterdam. Bring the whole family!

Gender relations in anime 9/19(F)
Hi all! Our speaker is coming all the way from Japan, so if you're
interested in manga or gender relations in current Japan, please
attend! This event is open, so invite anyone you know who might be
interested! ^.^

CU Anime will be hosting a Doctoral Candidate from Japan's Kobe
University, Ms. Mikako Hata. Ms. Hata is writing her dissertation of
issues of gender in manga. She will be giving a presention on manga,
specifically on issues of audience, marketing, and story creation,
focusing on how these represent gender sterotypes and realities in
modern Japan. Using specific case studies, she will examine how these
gender relations are evolving in the current era. All are welcome to
attend.
