トロントでびっくりしたこと

私は今年の夏にトロントへ行きました。学会（がっかい,conference）があったんです。そのときに地下鉄（ちかてつ）の駅で、おもしろいものを見つけました。

それは、ごみばこです。
リサイクルとふつうのゴミの二つがあります。それに、ビニール（vinyl=plastic)のふくろの中が見えるんです。だから、みんなまちがえないで、気をつけて入れると思います。すばらしい！

ニューヨークの地下鉄のごみばこは一つだけですね。それでもリサイクルしているそうです。リサイクルとふつうのごみばこをおいても、ニューヨークの人は「どっちでもいい」と思ってリサイクルにふつうのゴミを入れたり、リサイクルできるゴミをふつうのゴミに入れたりしてしまうから、一つしかおかないと聞きました。

トロントのスーパーでもっとすごいものを発見（はっけん）しました。
それは土に帰る（つまりbiodegradable)ビニールのふくろに入ったぎゅうにゅうです。
アメリカでも日本でもこんなものは見たことがありません。（ヨーロッパにはあるのかな。。。）

トロントは環境（かんきょう）にやさしい町でした。

この事件（じけん）は誰もけがをしていないし、誰も死んでいないし、誰もお金がなくなっていないそうです。お金は取られましたが、外国の保険会社（ほけんがいしゃinsurance company）が3億円を出したから、日本の中では誰も困らなかったそうです。すごいですね。

A list of Favorite New York City Stories was specially selected this year by children’s librarians from the three public library systems of New York City: Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and Queens Library. Celebrities from film, TV and Broadway will read from the 20 books on the list at The Great Children’s Read. Featured readers on the New York Times Stage will be: Dan Zanes, Matthew Settle from "Gossip Girl", Kym Hampton former New York Liberty Legend and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.

Featured entertainment at the Target Children’s Stage this year will include readings and performances by Grammy Award-winning artist and actor Common, Nancy E. CU Anime will be hosting a Doctoral Candidate from Japan's Kobe
University, Ms. Mikako Hata. Ms. Hata is writing her dissertation of
issues of gender in manga. She will be giving a presention on manga,
specifically on issues of audience, marketing, and story creation,
focusing on how these represent gender sterotypes and realities in
modern Japan. Using specific case studies, she will examine how these
gender relations are evolving in the current era. All are welcome to
attend.

みなさん！

コースのはじめに言ったとおり、このクラスではブログをします。

どうしてでしょうか。

こんなりゆうがあります。英語で書きますね。

1. It's fun.
It's fun to use your language.

2. It gives you a chance to use your Japanese with other Japanese users (native or non-native; in Japan or anywhere) for real purposes.

What's the point of learning a language, if you are not goint to use it? Use Japanese to communicate with other Japaense learners in this class, other classes on our campus or other schools, "REAL" Japanese people in Japan (or anywhere else) who are not Japanese teacher like me.

3. You learn.
That's why you are here, right? You learn from your classmates, other bloggers, readers to your blog, readers to others' blog, and yourself, too. As you write, you might discover things that you were not previously aware of...

Let me know when you think of more reasons...

Be aware of risks on the internet including identity theft. Avoid using your real name or other personal information.
